WHAT ARE TOXINS?

We are exposed to more toxins than ever before. This week we are going to discuss a BIG culprit that contributes to the “BRAIN FOG” we learned about last week.

Everyone knows about the toxins in our environment.  Polluted water, gasoline solvents, air pollution and pesticides sprayed on our fruits and vegetables.

But we do not even have to leave our own homes to be exposed! Just getting up in the morning, taking a shower, applying cosmetics and hygiene products, and eating breakfast exposes us to over 100 chemical compounds! 

There is chlorine in our drinking water and bathing water.  All kinds of parabens and chemicals in our skin care and hygiene products, fluoride in our toothpaste, aluminum in our anti-perspirants, and pesticides in our breakfast.

Toxins are substances that are poisonous to humans.

Normally, the immune system, liver and kidneys work together to remove toxins as they enter the body. When toxin levels accumulate and exceed our bodies capability to remove them, we call it increased toxic burden.

It may not be evident in the beginning, but as time moves on, the effects can be seen in all our body systems.

Here is a nugget you may not know!  Stress and Fear cause an overgrowth of certain bacteria’s in the colon! It is little wonder that we are sluggish, and that Brain Fog creeps in!

WHERE DO TOXINS COME FROM?

Environmental Toxins

  • Pollution
  • Auto Exhaust
  • Solvents (paint/cleaning products)
  • Heavy Metals
  • Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides
  • Radiation/Inhalants

Lifestyle Toxins

  • Dietary Choices (fast foods, fried foods)
  • Refined foods and sugars
  • Artificial additives, colorings, and preservatives
  • RX and OTC drugs
  • Cosmetics
  • Nicotine
  • Alcohol

Internal Toxins

  • Yeast, Bacterial, Fungal overgrowth
  • By-products of metabolic reactions such as carbon dioxide and ammonia
  • Undigested food
  • Stress
  • Unhappy Relationships
  • Unresolved trauma or abuse

OUR LIVER WORKS 24 HOURS A DAY

The liver is the largest gland in the body, a real dynamo.  It assimilates and packages nutrients for use while detoxifying hundreds of chemicals in 2 phases (we will discuss that another time).

Most of the toxins we are exposed to are fat-soluble compounds.  These are deposited directly into the body’s fat stores.  Fat cells are less metabolically active than the other cells in our body. 

The Good News is this reduces the amount of toxins that are circulating freely in the bloodstream.

Bad News is that the fat acts as an insulation to protect our organs. The body will tend to form more fat in which to store these toxins, making weight management difficult.  Especially the “spare tire” that accumulates around the middle.

The body also deposits toxins into other tissues, preventing proper organ function and these negatively affect the heart, colon, liver, brain, kidneys, lungs, skin and even hormones.  The liver directs changing fat-soluble toxins into a water-soluble form so they can be eliminated by the kidneys and colon.

SO, WHAT CAN WE DO?  WE CAN DETOXIFY TO HELP:

  • Reach and Maintain a healthy weight
  • Consume healthy and whole foods
  • Improve Metabolism
  • Achieve Optimal Performance
  • Feel Better. Seek help when need it.

BRAIN FOG?! What IS it? Do I have it? Why? Find OUT!

“Brain Fog” is not a medical condition or a diagnosis. It is a term used for a cluster of symptoms that affect your ability to think sharply.

Common Symptoms

Common Symptoms include forget fullness- words, names, missing appointments, fatigue, distraction, moodiness or just feeling “off your game”.

Ever ask yourself why you walked into a room? Ever look desperately for your glasses and they are on your head? How about searching for your keys for 20 minutes only to find them in your hand?  Well, you are certainly not alone, at least not in my circle of friends and families!

All of these are affected by our very fast “pace” lifestyle, overly processed foods, physical inactivity and factory farmed processed meats.

Causes

So, just what causes Brain Fog? There are some conditions that seem to go hand in hand with Brain Fog and are harder to control such as:

  • Pregnancy and hormone shifts
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Medications
  • Cancer treatments
  • Menopause
  • Chronic Fatigues Syndrome
  • Underactive thyroid

What can I do?

With a good understanding and a strategy in place you can improve your cognitive ability even though you have a condition.

The Good news?  There ARE underlying issues that we DO have the ability to improve and gain control over such as:

All of these contribute to Inflammation in the body and brain.  Inflammation is the underlying root of most medical conditions. Our brains crave vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and glucose to function at its optimal best. In addition, sleep and physical activity are needed for our brains to be fed.
